Rapid STI Testing for Women
Many women suffer from sexually transmitted infection (STIs), and no one wants delays in receiving results. That is why Jovive Health is now offering rapid testing for women’s STIs at all our locations.
Here are some frequent questions we get asked about STIs and rapid tests.
What is an STI?
Asymptomatic STIs are acquired every day worldwide, and fall in the category of STD, including gonorrhea, trichomoniasis, and chlamydia. They spread through sexual contact and can spread from mother to child during pregnancy or at birth. People can have an STI and not show symptoms, which is why it is important to be tested if you are sexually active.
The rapid STI test can check for three types of STIs: gonorrhea, chlamydia, and trichomonas.
What are common symptoms?
Though many people can be asymptomatic for STIs, some people do suffer symptoms. Symptoms can appear after a few days, or they can take years to become noticeable.
Some of these symptoms include:
Unusual odors or discharge
Unusual odorous or discharge
What are treatments?
Most STIs can be treated with antibiotics if they are caused by bacteria. If it is a viral infection, they may not be curable, but they can be managed.
When treating an STI with antibiotics, you will want to abstain from sex for seven days after you have completed the treatment. Due to high reinfection, we encourage you to be retested in three months, but always ask your doctor what they recommend. Being retested ensures that the treatment worked and you haven’t been reinfected.
